The nutritionist journey begins.....

I'm Jamie, I'm 52 and in my main career I'm an accountant.  However since I can remember I've been overweight and have yo-yo'd drastically up to almost 20 stone and down to just over 15 stone.  Whilst I know how to lose weight it's pretty obvious that I have never really fully understood about the science behind weight loss, I.e the nutrition side.  So I'm now about to begin on a dual mission - to lose weight and also to learn about the nutrition side of things, with the ultimate aim of what is commonly referred to on various weight loss shows as "paying it forward", I.e helping others who have the same issues as me.
Over the last year life has been to be quite honest fairly crappy.  A car accident in January 2014 lead to driving anxiety meaning I couldn't drive far, or on some occasions at all, without panicking.  After a few months it started to get better, only for me to then suffer a problem whilst out cycling which lead to several trips to hospitals and who knows how many tests, finally being (hopefully) sorted out by a trip to the hospital for an angioplasty (stent) on Christmas Eve.  Whilst going through all these tests my ability to work out at the gym was severely reduced, which was a major issue for me as in the past my weight loss had been down to the ability to work off more calories than my fairly poor diet was taking in.  Taking out the exercise angle threw a massive spoke in the works, and then I realised that I simply didn't have the nutrition angle correct.  So... I signed up for an intensive course, having sat through an example test in which I identified with so many of the problem areas that I knew I was doing the right thing.
The truth of the matter is that whilst I like my job, and waited almost 30 years to do it on a self employed basis to give me the freedom that I always wanted, I don't find it very rewarding.  So the thought of being able to help someone else work out what I spent over 50 years trying to fathom is a new challenge for me.
I will be looking for a test case as part of my study, and I am looking forward to this new challenge!
